Charlie Kirk

I, like so many others have been grieving at the loss of our dear Brother in Christ, Charlie Kirk, following his assassination this past week. Based on his confession of Jesus Christ as his Lord, and the fruit contained in the words that we have witnessed from his heart, we know he is now alongside our Lord Jesus Christ in heaven.

Nevertheless, back on earth the outpouring of grief for his loss is tangible, and what the assassination represented is a cause for much reflection and prayer.

In times like these, it helps to remind ourselves that we are all in a spiritual battle. While the Lord has defeated Satan, the powers of darkness did not down tools at their defeat at the Cross, but just like the thieves and killers they are (see John 10:10), continue to try to sow discord amongst those that are blind to the truth and are aligned with its demonic father, in order that Satan may be able to affect and use the pawns that are his children.

Jesus is recorded in John 8:44 (AMPC) as saying to the Pharisees and others with them in their wickedness:
You are of your father, the devil, and it is your will to practice the lusts and gratify the desires [which are characteristic] of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a falsehood, he speaks what is natural to him, for he is a liar [himself] and the father of lies and of all that is false.

Ephesians 2:1-2 shows us that Satan is constantly working in the sons of disobedience. That is, those in disobedience who continue to oppose God, walking in wickedness, rebellion, and obeying the leading of the demonic realm to differing degrees, whether the individual is aware of it or not. Remember: the demonic realm, the powers of darkness, and all souls in it are in darkness. They are blind to the truth, continue to reject it, until if and when they receive Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and God rescues them out of that realm and moves them into the Kingdom of His Beloved Son (see Colossians 1:13).

Ephesians 2:1-2 (AMPC):
2 And you [He made alive], when you were dead (slain) by [your] trespasses and sins 2 In which at one time you walked [habitually]. You were following the course and fashion of this world [were under the sway of the tendency of this present age], following the prince of the power of the air. [You were obedient to and under the control of] the [demon] spirit that still constantly works in the sons of disobedience [the careless, the rebellious, and the unbelieving, who go against the purposes of God].

Those who carry out such heinous acts are themselves in the kingdom of darkness amongst other lost and fallen souls who represent the nature of Satan, whether they know it or not in their blindness of being in the dark. So, by default we tend to blame the person, not acknowledging there is an invisible realm with demons speaking to these individuals, stirring and influencing them into action. This could be by them hearing agendas promoted through the lips of other fallen souls that have yet to receive Christ and be delivered from this deplorable realm of darkness and its wickedness.

Those who are silently or publicly pleased at Kirk’s passing are also most definitely under the powers of darkness and need Christ to set them free from their fallen, fractured nature.

The believer in Christ is IN this world, but not OF this world. This world remains fallen, and much of it is in darkness, but those of us who carry the Light of Jesus Christ in us, we are able to make a difference, IF we so chose to become active and not sit on the couch of apathy.

Besides the tremendous grief being endured by Erika and the family at the loss of her dear Husband, it is also painful especially for those who are born again Christians. We not only recognize the fruit of Charlie’s labors, but he was carrying Christ, the Hope of Glory (see Colossians 1:27).

When the flame of a candle is snuffed out, the surrounding area goes dark. When the love of Christ shown through a person is snuffed out however, the window into their soul and the presence of the Lord on that person obviously is no longer there. The person’s soul has moved on (in Charlie’s case to Heaven), and the body of the person ends up in the coffin.

So, while the person gets promoted to Heaven, the absence of the power and love of the Light of Christ in an individual is what makes that loss feel even more acute. It is the love of Christ that we do not realize that we are missing being represented and reflected through that person. It’s invisible to us, but it’s not invisible to our spirit man which itself is in the invisible spirit realm. Sometimes it is not only what we once saw that is no longer there, but that which was there that we could not see. The wonderful presence of the Lord in and upon our Brother is what we also miss. However, we rejoice at the same time that for those of us in a relationship with Jesus, Jesus is not lost to death. He is ALIVE and WE are made ALIVE in Him! Charlie’s legacy will continue to live on through his organization, and while God did not cause Charlie’s death, God will nevertheless work this situation for good. (Romans 8:28). We are aware that this is not the end of the story, and only the beginning of a greater push against the darkness which is where us Christians need to rise up and know who we are in Christ and enforce Jesus’ victory over death and darkness!

So, while the flesh may want retribution, we as believers must remember the Truth that is Ephesians 6:12 (AMPC):
12 For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.

Matthew 5:10-11 (AMPC):
10 Blessed and happy and [a]enviably fortunate and [b]spiritually prosperous [c](in the state in which the born-again child of God enjoys and finds satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of his outward conditions) are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake (for being and doing right), for theirs is the kingdom of heaven!

11 Blessed (happy, [d]to be envied, and [e]spiritually prosperous—[f]with life-joy and satisfaction in God’s favor and salvation, regardless of your outward conditions) are you when people revile you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil things against you falsely on My account.

There is a time to grieve and mourn. Let us not slumber and slouch, but instead march on, and continue to run the race set before us (see Hebrews 12:1). We must not grow weary in well doing (see Galatians 6:9). Remember you can do ALL things in Christ who STRENGTHENS you (see Philippians 4:13).
