On the right hand side of this page there are 10 weekly podcast teachings on this series. The following summary was presented in the final episode (Pt. 10) (306).
Today marks the end of this series on The Truth About Generational Curses. In today we will be summarizing the key points of the series to help you remember so that you will never again be led astray by false teachings, the doctrines of devils (1 Timothy 4:1), and you will know what the Word of God says about this topic, which is the Lord’s Will and Nature. After all, Jesus came to set the captives free (Isaiah 61:1; Luke 4:18).
- Everything begins with the Word of God which is the absolute Truth. If you have not already done so, you have to settle this in your mind once and for all.
- Jesus said in Matthew 24:35 35 Sky and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
- John 14:6 6 Jesus said to him, I am the Way and the Truth and the Life; no one comes to the Father except by (through) Me.
- Psalm 119:89
89 Forever, O Lord, Your word is settled in heaven [stands firm as the heavens].
- Pay Attention to Who Teaches You
1 John 2:27
27 But as for you, the anointing (the sacred appointment, the unction) which you received from Him abides [[a]permanently] in you; [so] then you have no need that anyone should instruct you. But just as His anointing teaches you concerning everything and is true and is no falsehood, so you must abide in (live in, never depart from) Him [being [b]rooted in Him, knit to Him], just as [His anointing] has taught you [to do].
Do not trust any minister until you can confirm their teachings by reading the Bible yourself and asking the Holy Spirit to show you the truth. To guide you in every day life. This goes to the core need for us to have a relationship with Jesus.
Jesus said I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except by Me. So, If we are not following Him, if we are not following and believing the Word, which Jesus Is, then we are not following the Truth. What are we then following? By definition we are following a lie that is coming from somewhere that is not from Heaven or your Bible. Or worse, it is scripture that is being taught incorrectly – the doctrines of devils that the Apostle Paul writes to Timothy about:
1 Timothy 4:1
4 But the [Holy] Spirit distinctly and expressly declares that in latter times some will turn away from the faith, giving attention to deluding and seducing spirits and doctrines that demons teach,
Psalm 103:10:
10 He has not dealt with us after our sins nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.
- God Has Blessed Us; He Has Not Cursed Us
Eph 1:3:
3 May blessing (praise, laudation, and eulogy) be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) Who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual (given by the Holy Spirit) blessing in the heavenly realm
The Story of Ballam and Balaak:
Numbers 23:1-12
1 And Balaam said to Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven oxen and seven rams.
2 And Balak did as Balaam had spoken, and Balak and Balaam offered on each altar a bull and a ram.
3 And Balaam said to Balak, Stand by your burnt offering and I will go. Perhaps the Lord will come to meet me; and whatever He shows me I will tell you. And he went to a bare height.
4 God met Balaam, who said to Him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered on each altar a bull and a ram.
5 And the Lord put a speech in Balaam’s mouth, and said, Return to Balak and thus shall you speak.
6 Balaam returned to Balak, who was standing by his burnt sacrifice, he and all the princes of Moab.
7 Balaam took up his [figurative] speech and said: Balak, the king of Moab, has brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse Jacob for me; and come, violently denounce Israel.
8 How can I curse those God has not cursed? Or how can I [violently] denounce those the Lord has not denounced?
9 For from the top of the rocks I see Israel, and from the hills I behold him. Behold, the people [of Israel] shall [a]dwell alone and shall not be reckoned and esteemed among the nations.
10 Who can count the dust (the descendants) of Jacob and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous [those who are upright and in right standing with God], and let my last end be like theirs!
11 And Balak said to Balaam, What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, and here you have [thoroughly] blessed them instead!
12 And Balaam answered, Must I not be obedient and speak what the Lord has put in my mouth?
So, God has said you are blessed. He has not said you are cursed.
- The Flaw with the idea of having to go back and find the sin an ancestor committed
The people who espouse the generational curse idea, or doctrine of devils, the people that teach that, try to tell people, you need to go back to your grandparents and somewhere in your lineage, find their sin and break it. However, ask yourself:
- Has there ever been a sin that you have committed, even that you commit on a regular basis, that nobody around you knew about. It is rare for someone to confess their sin to another. They keep it to themselves.
- So could it be possible that when these generational curse experts tell you to go back into your family history, that your ancestors might have had some hidden sins too, and never told you about them.
- If that’s the case, you can never get free by breaking it.
The general idea behind a generational curse is that people are trapped in sin and / or some type of bondage to sickness or disease or something like this that comes upon them, because of something their ancestor did.
- This should have nothing to do with Christianity. If this was true, Paul was a liar… All things are not new. Old things are not passed away, and everything in you is not of God because it’s half God and half the devil.
2 Cor 5:17 (AMPC)
17 Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!
18 But all things are from God, Who through Jesus Christ reconciled us to Himself [received us into favor, brought us into harmony with Himself] and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation [that by word and deed we might aim to bring others into harmony with Him].
- So right there this should tell us there is a problem in that teaching/doctrine of generational curses.
One of the first signs is:
- Jesus never did it, but yet He got everybody free
- All the people he ever healed, he never said “Well let’s first break the generational curse.”
The minister never brings out that fact, because they are trying to be a doctor or psychiatrist and bring the world into the church, and practice it, and all it does is it causes the person to go deeper into bondage…. The person starts to fear “oh I didn’t do enough….I didn’t find this.. didn’t look at that…”
Christians should not be fearful!
The Lord did not clean you up and set you free just to LEAVE YOU CURSED.
Luke 10:19
Amplified Bible, Classic Edition
19 Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you.
- It is all down to what you believe
The born-again believer is brand new in Christ. Any problems you still have is because of what you believe. The devil has influence in the carnal part of the mind, and we can go from a mind of carnality to a Christ like mind by reading, believing and then doing His Word.
- Jesus bore the curse for us:
Galatians 3:13 13 Christ purchased our freedom [redeeming us] from the curse (doom) of the Law [and its condemnation] by [Himself] becoming a curse for us, for it is written [in the Scriptures], Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree (is crucified);
Jesus bore this curse for the believer, you and I, there is no curse left, He took all the curse out of me and instead He put all his blessings in me.
However, this is for nothing unless you believe this truth, accept it, and live it. Out of the abundance of your heart your mouth speaks. What do you hear yourself saying? “This will be the death of me? My life is a curse?” No! You say “I am blessed!” because He has given unto me every spiritual blessing in Heavenly Places.
If you are practicing your problem…. You are creating a pattern of continuing sin.
Problems may have started with ancestors if we chose to act like them, but we have to act like Jesus.
- We are told in the Word of God to avoid genealogies
The answer to your problems is not what your ancestors did. Our answer is always JESUS. The Apostle Paul speaks against delving into our ancestors and genealogy:
1 Timothy 1:1-4
1 Paul, an apostle (special messenger) of Christ Jesus by appointment and command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus (the Messiah), our Hope,
2 To Timothy, my true son in the faith: Grace (spiritual blessing and favor), mercy, and [heart] peace [be yours] from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
3 As I urged you when I was on my way to Macedonia, stay on where you are at Ephesus in order that you may warn and admonish and charge certain individuals not to teach any different doctrine,
4 Nor to give importance to or occupy themselves with legends (fables, myths) and endless genealogies, which foster and promote useless speculations and questionings rather than acceptance in faith of God’s administration and the divine training that is in faith ([a]in that leaning of the entire human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence)—
5 Whereas the object and purpose of our instruction and charge is love, which springs from a pure heart and a good (clear) conscience and sincere (unfeigned) faith.
Also in Titus 3 v8-9
8 This message is most trustworthy, and concerning these things I want you to insist steadfastly, so that those who have believed in (trusted in, relied on) God may be careful to apply themselves to honorable occupations and to doing good, for such things are [not only] excellent and right [in themselves], but [they are] good and profitable for the people.
9 But avoid stupid and foolish controversies and genealogies and dissensions and wrangling about the Law, for they are unprofitable and futile.
- The Children whose parents and ancestors have committed sin, will not pay for their ancestors’ sin and iniquities.
Indeed, in Ezekiel 18 we see that God told Ezekiel to no longer mention the proverb that talks about the children paying for the sins of the Father:
Ezekiel 18:1-
18 The word of the Lord came to me again, saying,
2 What do you mean by using this proverb concerning the land of Israel, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?
That the father’s wrongs will be suffered by the children — that the sins of the fathers, will go down to the children of the third and fourth generations…. Why are you saying this to my children of Israel?
3 As I live, says the Lord God, you shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.
4 Behold, all souls are Mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is Mine; the soul that sins, it shall die.
We covered the verses 1-20 from Ezekiel 18 in this series, but to summarize, the Lord gave examples of a just Father and an unjust Son, and likewise an unjust Father and a just Son, and verse 20 summarizes what happens in both situations:
20 The soul that sins, it [is the one that] shall die. The son shall not bear and be punished for the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear and be punished for the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him only, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon the wicked only.
Here in Verse 20 it also shows us that children cannot blame their actions upon their parents. They alone have free will to make decisions that affect their lives every day.
21 But if the wicked man turns from all his sins that he has committed and keeps all My statutes and does that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die.
Not only does the son or daughter not have to worry about bearing the sins or a generational curse from their fathers, but if you turn around and live right, you will not even have to bear your own sin!
22 None of his transgressions which he has committed shall be remembered against him; for his righteousness which he has executed [for his moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation], he shall live.
23 Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked? says the Lord, and not rather that he should turn from his evil way and return [to his God] and live?
- God remembers our sins no more
God has decided not to remember the sins of the soul that has entered the new covenant with God through Christ:
Hebrews 8:10-13
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will imprint My laws upon their minds, even upon their innermost thoughts and understanding, and engrave them upon their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
11 And it will nevermore be necessary for each one to teach his neighbor and his fellow citizen or each one his brother, saying, Know (perceive, have knowledge of, and get acquainted by experience with) the Lord, for all will know Me, from the smallest to the greatest of them.
12 For I will be merciful and gracious toward their sins and I will remember their deeds of unrighteousness no more.
13 When God speaks of a new [covenant or agreement], He makes the first one obsolete (out of use). And what is obsolete (out of use and annulled because of age) is ripe for disappearance and to be dispensed with altogether.
And although this speaks to the Lord establishing a new covenant with the house of Israel, those of us as Gentiles know we have been grafted in to be a part of the new covenant as the Apostle Paul speaks about in Romans 10, verse 12, Romans 11 verse 13, and Ephesians 2 verse 16.
- Stop sinning
- Sin includes being anxious, because if you are anxious, you are not in faith, and what is not of faith is sin.
- Repent – turn 180 degrees from your sinful actions and seek Jesus with all your heart. Spend time with him daily, and His Word, in prayer, worship. Congregate with other believers.
- Stop thinking you cannot stop your behavior. You have a free will. You have to decide to say “No”. Until you get to that point you will carry on doing it. But if you want to be obedient to the Lord, stop being disobedience in sin and your carnal thinking.
- He will set you free by His grace and the blood He shed on the Cross when you make a decision to make Jesus your Lord, and ask for His strength and grace to keep you from sinning. The temptations will come, but it is what you and I do when we get them. It’s a yes/no response, and we have to take every thought captive. Jesus knows what it’s like to be tempted, so he understands you, and he understands the temptation. But in His strength and In Him you have overcome the world. You have overcome sin and death because He did that for you. Now live what you are : FREE!
| So, when someone says to you, you need to find out what your father and your grandfather did, or some ancestor because you have a generational curse, you INSTEAD remember what the Lord has said in His Word, know His heart, and realize, you don’t have a generational curse if you are saved. You need to get in the Word of God, believe what it says and do it. Renew your mind to the truth and that will transform you according to Romans 12:2. |
The Truth About Generational Curses (Pt.1) (297) – May 10 2025
We will be studying the Word of God in order to show that it is not possible for a born again believer, a Christian, to have a generational curse.
The Truth About Generational Curses (Pt.2) (298) – May 17 2025
God has said the believer in Christ is blessed. He has not said they are cursed.
The Truth About Generational Curses (Pt.3) (299) – May 24 2025
This week we talk amongst other things about the importance of doing your own research in the Word of God; asking the Holy Spirit to guide you into the Truth and validate what you are hearing from ministers.
The Truth About Generational Curses (Pt.4) (300) – May 31 2025
Most people do not want to declare their sins to God, much less to their family members. So what makes us believe that we would know our ancestor’s sin in order to break the generational curse?
The Truth About Generational Curses (Pt.5) (301) – June 7 2025
If the born again believer in Christ understands and believes in the variety of scripture that shows God’s divine protection for those that seek Him, then nothing shall by any means hurt that person. (see Luke 10:19). Where the believer runs into trouble is when he or she believes that generational curses can still connect to them and affect them. It is like anything in the Bible. It only comes true for the person reading, when that person finds out the truth and then decides to believe in it, taking every thought captive in obedience to Christ, and rejecting any false teachings, including on this topic of generational curses.
The Truth About Generational Curses (Pt.6) (302) – June 14 2025
You cannot be cursed and blessed at the same time. Therefore the believer in Christ cannot have a generational curse,
The Truth About Generational Curses (Pt.7) (303) – June 21 2025
We learn that the Lord does NOT visit the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who LOVE Him and keep His Commandments. (Exodus 20:3-6).
The Truth About Generational Curses (Pt.8) (304) – June 28 2025
As we progress through this series, we see the progression of this topic in Scripture itself. From recent episodes we have seen that the Lord did not visit the children of the third and fourth generation of fathers that committed sin as long as those children loved the Lord and kept His commandments. The false teachings in the church about generational curses often do not teach this important clarifying truth!
In this episode, we see the progression of how the Lord decides to handle sin in the Old Testament. We see from studying Ezekiel chapter 18 in today’s program the Lord putting a stop to an old proverb being spoken. That proverb illustrating that the children were having to pay for the sins and iniquities of their fathers.
The Truth About Generational Curses (Pt.9) (305) – July 5 2025
Not only does the son or daughter not have to worry about bearing the sins or a generational curse from their fathers and ancestors, but if you turn around and live right, you will not even have to bear your own sin!
The Lord remembers no more the transgressions of the wicked man that turns from his wicked ways and keeps the Lord’s statutes, and does that which is lawful and right. Ezekiel 18:22 shows the Lord stating this person shall live.
The Truth About Generational Curses – A Summary (Pt.10) (306) – July 12 2025
The final program in this series summarizes the key points covered in the entire series over the past nine weeks. The Truth that the born-again believer cannot have a generational curse, has been blessed by God with every spiritual blessing in heavenly places, and cannot be cursed because God has only blessed and not cursed His children. Additional supporting Scripture is also included from each episode in the series in this summary.
